Best Buds 420 Brunch
By: Morgan English
Over the last few years as recreational cannabis has taken over the west coast, so have the fancy cannabis events… especially for 4|20. Now, I never mind a nice event and I’ve attended quite a few fun ones, but this year all I can think about is going back to how it used to be for 4|20. Sometimes it isn’t about the big event or getting dressed to the nines. Sometimes it’s about good food and great company (and some really really great weed). So this year, 4|20 is for best buds. The way it used to be, just a little more elevated, of course.
A few of my go-to brunch favorites are pancakes, avocado toast, and anything that can involve whip cream. I let that dictate the menu, and added CBD to everything because why not?! Now, these recipes may seem a little fancy, but I promise they aren’t. You can scoop up everything you need at your local Target or Trader Joe’s, even the frozen pancakes! No need to overcomplicate hosting friends; always go for the easy option.
As you may notice, I made everything bite-size portioning for the food. I personally love this because it makes it easier to eat and hang out on the couch while the joints bump around.
Now, on to the menu! Up first, my personal favorite, CBD Nutella Pancakes. You can find me making these weekly from now on if I’m being honest.
CBD Nutella Pancakes
What you’ll need:
1 tablespoon Bare CBD tincture
1 cup Nutella
Frozen silver dollar pancakes (I always use Trader Joe’s brand!)
Strawberries
Powdered sugar (optional)
Directions:
Scoop one cup of Nutella and one tablespoon Bare CBD into a bowl, mix until completely combined
Slice strawberries into quarters
Heat pancakes in the microwave as directed
Spread Nutella on pancakes and stack in 3’s
Add a strawberry on top
Dust powdered sugar over all the pancakes and dig in!
A true millennial brunch staple: Avocado toast, but with CBD. I mean really, is it even a brunch if there wasn’t avocado toast??
Bite Size CBD Avocado Toasts
What you’ll need:
½ tablespoon Bare CBD tincture
4 avocados
½ lemon
6 slices of bread
Salt and pepper or Trader Joe’s “Everything but the Bagel” seasoning
Red chili pepper flakes (optional)
Directions
Slice avocados and scoop the insides into a medium sized mixing bowl, add Bare tincture to avocados and squeeze a lemon over the bowl
Toast slices of bread
Using a fork, mash the avocado and tincture together
Scoop some avocado smash onto the slices of toast and use the fork to flatten it out evenly across the bread
Sprinkle the desired seasoning on top
Slice into triangles and enjoy!
If you know me, you know I love my homemade CBD whip cream. I also love offering one option that doesn’t have any CBD mixed in beforehand. This led me to the easiest food option ever, fruit cups with a side of CBD whip cream.
Fruit Cups with CBD Whip Cream
What you’ll need:
Mixed berries
Whipped cream (store bought or homemade is fine!)
What you’ll need for the whipped cream:
1 cup heavy whipping cream
2 tablespoons of sugar
½ teaspoon of vanilla
1 tablespoon Bare CBD tincture
Directions:
Place mixing bowl and whisk in the freezer for 15 minutes
Combine all ingredients in mixing bowl
Mix on high speed until medium peaks appear
Add Bare tincture, using a spatula fold the whipped cream around the Bare until combined
Put the berries in individual serving cups with the CBD whip cream on the side
All that’s left is setting out some joints and blowing up some balloons! Happy 4|20, my friends.
